The combustion of hydrocarbons produces a specific infra-red signature. The levels of the IR produced by flame across the spectrum can be discriminated from that occuring for black body emissions.
Selectively sampling the spectrum and degree of infra-red emission permits defined analysis of the monitored condition. Flame can be discriminated from normal IR elevations occuring due to hot machinery etc.
Patol Limited's Series 7000 Sensors monitor IR emissions in specific bands. The systems are "tuned" to respond to flame conditions and reject IR emissions occurring due to normal industrial processes and temperature elevations.
The 7000 infra-red sensors monitor a narrow band of infra-red where a peak emission occurs on CO2 formation due to hydrocarbon combustion, together with a wider band of slightly longer wavelength.
All 7000 detectors employ the same principles of detection. The types available have slightly different features covering various applications. These include air purged / cleansed units for dusty and/or hazardous environments.
